NA Technical Institute assaultThe Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation into a violent attack that occurred on several students of the New Amsterdam Technical Institute by one of their colleagues.Commander of B Division (Berbice), Paul Langevine told Guyana Times on Wednesday that one of the victims’ parents filed a report with Police in Berbice and a probe into the matter has been launched. He further noted that upon completion of the investigation the necessary actions will be taken.NA Technical Institute assault“I know a report was made, a parent came with their child. The report was made and the necessary actions will be taken,” Langevine said.Outraged ensued on social media on Tuesday when the video showing the beating went viral.In the video, the teen is seen taking off his belt and using it to inflict blows which were mostly targeted. The video angered many who viewed it and calls for the Police to arrest the student have been made. The student is also seen slapping one of the other students in a classroom. In a statement to the media on Tuesday, the Education Ministry said the investigation was launched after the video emerged on social media.However, sources at the school told Guyana Times that the incident occurred on Monday.B Division Commander Paul LangevineWhen the mother of the aggressor was contacted by this publication, she initially refused to give any comment on the matter. She however denied making any social media post justifying her son’s actions, adding that she is making efforts to reach out to the parents of the victims.Since the emergence of the video, social activists and religious leaders have condemned the act, calling for a heavy penalty against the student to discourage others from such violent behaviour.
