first_imgWITH 2019 almost near its end, Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) will be honouring its top performers of the year, when the annual Awards Ceremony gets underway tonight.In keeping with yearly customs and traditions, the GCB recognises all its players, administrators, stakeholders, media, sponsors and clubs who have been among the top-performers throughout the calendar year of 2019.The ceremony has been transformed over the years as a number of new awards and accolades were introduced to the event. The number of awardees has also increased as the GCB over recent years has gone to great lengths to properly recognise its players.Last year was no different, as a number of medals both group and individual, were presented to members of the fraternity. Wicketkeeper Anthony Bramble, who has been a key man for Guyana in 4-Day cricket over the years, emerged as the Senior Regional Cricketer-of-the-Year.His fellow countryman, Berbice and Guyana Youth all-rounder Kevin Sinclair was named Junior Cricketer-of-the-Year. Ryan Hercules, Essequibo and Jaguars Academy coach, was adjudged Coach-of-the-Year while Albert Das won Curator-of-the-Year for his outstanding work on the local grounds last year.This year’s event could see a number of new faces being placed into the spotlight as a number of players, including Romario Shepherd, Ashmead Nedd, Kevlon Anderson, Shabika Gajnabi to name a few, have made huge steps both regionally and internationally this year.Also, Rose Hall Town, Albion, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and others will be front-runners for Clubs-of-the-Year, following their great respective runs this year.CWI vice-president Dr Kishore Shallow is expected to deliver the feature address at this evening’s ceremony, which gets underway at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) pavilion from 19:00hrs.last_img
