Duane Betts is a virtuosic guitar player and the son of famed Allman Brothers Band member, Dickey Betts. Today, Duane has released his debut EP titled Sketches of American Music. The six-song collection highlights Betts’ talent for storytelling, offering up a wonderful fusion of vibrant tunes that are rich with life stories. As Duane Betts described in a press release,Sketches to me is not a beginning but an extension. I grew up with a guitar in my hand and I was surrounded by songs that were iconic. Music was always a focal point in my family and songwriting was the cornerstone. I have witnessed in many situations, playing with my father or the countless others, that the song is what ignites the connection. Now that I have this opportunity to play in my own outfit I can bring my songs as the jumping off point for that experience.Currently, Duane Betts is on tour with The Devon Allman Project, which see the singer-songwriter performing with Devon Allman, the son of his father’s Allman Brothers bandmate, Gregg Allman. During these performances, Duane opens with a 30-minute set, ahead of Devon Allman’s performance—both bands then reconvene for a special, joint 30-plus minute encore. Furthermore, Duane Betts will also be performing with his father for a number of shows during Dickey Betts’ highly anticipated comeback tour. You can listen to Duane Betts’ new album, Sketches of American Music, below.
